Sep 07, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. Malta Decor, Poland has awarded the contract for two new quality control systems (QCS) to Germany's LSC Process- und Laborsysteme. The LSC Daidalos QCS will be installed on Malta Decor's two new 2.7 meters wide décor paper machines – PM 4 in Poznan and PM 5 in Rudawa.
LSC says its systems are based on latest technologies with smart sensors using CAN-Open field bus inside. CAN-Open offers secure data transmission even in high electromagnetic noise environments. LSC's modular sensor concept, with quick connectors, allows for fast and efficient maintenance tasks, adds the supplier.
The system platform is based on modern industrial PC technology that focuses on high reliability and uptime as an essential requirement for modern process control.
Smart Scanners of the product family I-ScanDplus are equipped with sensors to measure basis weight, moisture, ash and temperature. Both basis weight and ash sensors employ modern solid-state silicon detection (SST) technology to produce a faster response, higher spatial resolution and better signal to noise ratio when compared with conventional ionization chamber technology. The moisture sensor is based on infra-red same spot measurement using a unique integrating sphere to obtain the most accurate results.
For machine direction (MD) controls both parties agreed on an integrated approach using a Profibus DP interface. Supervisory control loops are part of LSC system and the field level loops and I/O modules are fully embedded in Malta Décor's automation system. Grammage CD control is delivered by LSC using smart slice lip actuators with direct fieldbus interface to the QCS platform.
The two paper machines are planned to go on line in the first and second quarters of 2006, respectively.
