Mar 10, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. UPM has started the process of closing down its timber further processing mill in Dinnington, in the UK Midlands. The closure is expected to be concluded during the second quarter of 2006, following full consultations with employees.
"The financial performance of the Dinnington mill has been poor already for many years. Regardless of the efforts made by the mill's production personnel and sales, the mill's high cost structure compared to the relatively low production capacity make it impossible to get the operations profitable", says Tuomo Visanko, senior vice president, operations.
The Dinnington planing mill has a processing capacity of 35 000 cubic meters of timber and it employs 34 people. UPM has a plan to help the personnel affected to find new employment. The closure costs have only minor effect on UPM's operating profit.
