AV Group NB will temporarily idle its dissolving pulp mill in Nackawic, New Brunswick, around the end of October, citing prevailing market conditions and broader macroeconomic factors, the company said.

The mill can produce about 190,000 metric tons of dissolving pulp a year and employs about 350 people. Unifor, the union representing the mill's workers, said 228 of its members would lose work.

New Brunswick Natural Resources Minister John Herron said government departments were preparing a response plan for affected workers. About 100 people rallied in support of the mill workers in Nackawic on Friday.

The U.S. this month set final duties on dissolving pulp from Brazil and Norway.
