U.S. packaging papers and specialty packaging shipments in May 2026 increased 12% compared to May 2025, with year-to-date shipments up 6% when compared to the same five-month period of 2025, according to the American Forest & Paper Association.
The unbleached packaging papers operating rate declined to 89% in May after reaching nearly 93% in April. Shipments of bleached food wrapping rose 5.6% from May 2025 and increased 3.4% year-to-date. Total inventories increased for the first time since January and stood 6.8% lower than May 2025 levels.
