In March, Finland harvested 6.5 million m3 of industrial roundwood, 2% less than in March of the previous year and 4% lower than the five-year average, and from January to March the total reached 18.2 million m3, 7% less than in the previous year, according to Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke).
March harvesting included 2.6 million m3 of sawlogs, down 5% from the previous year, and 3.9 million m3 of pulpwood, down 1%. Private forests supplied 5.3 million m3 of industrial roundwood, down 4%, while forest industry companies’ own forests and state-owned forests supplied 1.2 million m3, up 6%.
Energywood harvesting totaled 0.7 million m3 in March, up 9%, and 71% of the volume consisted of delimbed stems and whole trees. From January to March, energywood totaled 1.8 million m3, down 15%.
For January–March 2026, industrial roundwood felling volumes totaled 18.21 million m3, down 7% from the previous year and down 3% compared with the average of the previous five years. Logs totaled 7.33 million m3, down 9% year over year and down 6% versus the five-year average, with pine logs at 3.14 million m3, down 8% and down 5%, spruce logs at 3.81 million m3, down 10% and down 7%, and hardwood logs at 0.36 million m3, down 7% and down 1%.
Pulpwood totaled 10.87 million m3, down 5% from the previous year and 0% compared with the five-year average, with pine pulpwood at 4.52 million m3, down 5% and down 1%, spruce pulpwood at 3.41 million m3, down 5% and up 5%, and hardwood pulpwood at 2.94 million m3, down 5% and down 4%. Energywood totaled 1.81 million m3, down 15% from the previous year and up 15% compared with the five-year average.
