Roundwood trade volumes in Finland rose 50% from April to May, but purchases in May were 30% lower than a year earlier and 27% below the five-year monthly average, according to Natural Resource Institute Finland (Luke).
The average standing sales price of spruce sawlogs rose in May to Euro 82.86 per m3, pine to Euro 77.28 per m3 and birch to Euro 63.19 per m3; compared with April, standing-sales sawlog prices increased by 1% for pine and spruce and by 2% for birch.
Standing-sales prices of softwood pulpwood decreased by 1% month-on-month: pine pulpwood fell to Euro 22.71 per m3 and spruce pulpwood to Euro 24.67 per m3, while birch pulpwood strengthened by 1% to Euro 23.36 per m3.
In delivery sales, softwood pulpwood prices fell 2% month-on-month, with pine pulpwood at Euro 38.90 per m3 and spruce pulpwood at Euro 41.30 per m3. Delivery-sales birch pulpwood rose 2% to Euro 42.47 per m3.
May purchases of industrial roundwood were 30% lower than a year earlier and 27% below the five-year monthly average. The cumulative roundwood trade volume for January–May was 28% lower than a year earlier and 18% below the five‑year average. Compared with the previous five years, trade in sawlogs fell 15% and trade in pulpwood fell 25%. Volumes of spruce sawlogs and spruce pulpwood have declined less than those of other species.
