UK’s waste wood exports reduced from 190,000 tonnes in 2019 to 92,000 tonnes in 2020, but imports increased from 20,000 tonnes in 2019 to 82,000 tonnes last year. The total amount of waste wood collected in 2020 was 4,050,000 tonnes, approximately 10% lower than in 2019 when it was 4.5 million tonnes.

Raute will move its operations in China to a new location in Changzhou, Jiangsu province. The new facility is located some three hours’ drive from Shanghai and there is a fast and efficient train connection. Operations in the new site are planned to start in January 2022.

New Zealand’s export prices for forestry products rose 7% in the March 2021 quarter. Within that category, prices for wood exports rose 9.1% over the quarter to reach the highest prices on record, slightly exceeding the previous peak in the June 2020 quarter.

From July 1, 2021, Russia introduces new duties on the export of green lumber with a moisture content exceeding 22%. The duty rate for softwood and oak will be 10%, but not less than Euro 13 and Euro 15 per 1 m3, respectively.

Germany exported a total of 12.7 million m3 of raw wood worth Euro 845 million in 2020. In terms of quantity, this was an increase of more than a third (42.6%) compared with 2019.

Global trade of wood chips, which are mainly used by pulpmills, grew from about 21 million tons in 2009 to an all-time high of 35 million tons in 2018. Subsequently, trade declined for two consecutive years to reach just over 30 million tons in 2020.

Setra's first delivery of planed timber went from Varberg, Sweden, to Port Canaveral in Florida and will be distributed to customers in the southeastern United States. Setra plans for regular deliveries to mainly Port Canaveral and Baltimore.
