The average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage (FRM) increases to 6.34% as of October 2, 2025, marking the second consecutive weekly rise, up from 6.30% last week and 6.12% one year earlier. The rate remains below its 52-week average of 6.71%, according to Freddie Mac.

The 15-year FRM also rises for the second week in a row, averaging 5.55%, compared to 5.49% last week and 5.25% a year ago. Freddie Mac’s Chief Economist Sam Khater said that recent lower rate levels have encouraged homebuyer activity, as reflected in an increase in pending home sales.
