Jul 10, 2009. /Lesprom Network/. The #6 paper machine in AbitibiBowater's Fort Frances, Ontario mill has been idled since March 6th of this year due to poor market conditions, ForestTalk reports. This week that paper machine was restarted so that tests could be run to see if the machine could be used to produce different types of paper. If so, it has the potential to make its operation more viable down the road. “We’re conducting a few trials at #6 this week just to prove out machine capabilities beyond what we’ve been producing on the machine in the past, which is SCA or glossy paper,” said mill manager John Harrison. “So, we’re just doing some trials on the machine to prove out how heavy we can make the sheet, how bulky we can make the sheet.” After this week, the #6 paper machine will be shut down again due to the continuing market conditions.
