Oct 19, 2009. /Lesprom Network/. The Finnish delegation headed by the Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Paavo Vayrynen visited Arkhangelsk region, as the region’s government informed Lesprom Network.

‘We are interested in close cooperation with Finland’, region governor Ilya Mikhalcyuk said, ‘The major cooperation is in timber processing. At the moment, we are interested in establishing further processing enterprises as well as new energy-saving technologies which are widely used in Finland’.

On October 7, the delegation visited Arkhangelsk pulp and paper mill OJSC, as said by the company’s spokesperson Milena Avada. The main goal of the visit was presentation of new equipment commissioned on April 18, 2007, a wood preparation unit No.4 costing over 2 billion roubles ($68.1 million) which was delivered by the Finnish affiliate of Andritz company. Dry debarking method used at the line became a major technical innovation which decreased energy consumption considerably.

During the meeting with the top executives of Arkhangelsk mill, a number of issues were discussed, in particular, cooperation of the mill with Finland’s Metso Corporation.
