Canada’s exports of softwood lumber to the United States fell 8% from January to June 2025 compared with the same period last year, totaling 13.4 million m3. This decline follows five consecutive months of lower shipments, based on data from Lesprom Analytics.
Total export value reached $2.8 billion, down 1% year-on-year, while the average export price rose 7% to $211 per m3. The largest monthly drop in volume occurred in February, down 19%. Volumes continued to fall through June, while export values stayed below 2024 levels in four out of six months. Spruce, Pine, Fir (SPF) shipments fell 10%, bringing in $2.2 billion, a 3% decrease, but the average SPF price per m3 increased 8% to $190. Spruce, fir (SF) exports slipped 3% by volume to 474 thousand m3, though value rose 7% to $120 million and price climbed 10% to $253 per m3.
Cedar exports increased 7% by volume to 315 thousand m3 and rose 11% by value to $68 million, with average price up 4% to $217 per m3. Hemlock exports rose 25% to 153 thousand m3, with value up 9% to $34 million, despite a 13% drop in price per m3 to $223. Pine volumes decreased 8% to 44 thousand m3, value fell 12% to $14 million, and price dropped 4% to $313 per m3. Hemlock & Fir (HEM-FIR) exports decreased 5% to 193 thousand m3, while value dipped less than 1% to $41 million, and price rose 5% to $214 per m3.
