Canfor Corporation announced that its PolarBoard OSB mill in Fort Nelson, British Columbia, will be taking approximately 2 weeks of downtime, representing an estimated 21 million square feet of production, due to a fire that occurred at the mill late Friday night. There were no injuries as a result of the incident and the mill’s internal fire suppression system kept the fire contained while Canfor and community firefighters extinguished the blaze. Investigations at the mill continue in attempts to determine the cause of the fire. It is expected that Canfor will undertake additional maintenance at the mill during the downtime. Canfor is a leading integrated forest products company based in Vancouver, British Columbia. The company is the largest producer of softwood lumber and one of the largest producers of northern softwood kraft pulp in Canada. Canfor also produces kraft paper, plywood, remanufactured lumber products, oriented strand board (OSB), hardboard paneling and a range of specialized wood products, including baled fibre and fibre mat at 33 facilities located in BC, Alberta, Quebec and North and South Carolina.
