Feb 02, 2009. /Lesprom.com/. Speciality paper manufacturer Cham-Tenero Paper Mills Inc., a subsidiary of Cham Paper Group, will take two weeks’ machine downtime in February 2009, Emballage Digest said. This is due to continuing destocking at various (even normally non- cyclical) customer groups and corresponding low order intake. This will also mean two weeks’ short-time working for production staff. Similar measures, which can be swiftly implemented, have been planned for both Italian mills. This will enable Cham Paper Group to react more flexibly to the exceptionally volatile fluctuations in demand, presently being experienced. Despite the currently unfavourable business climate, Cham Paper Group will implement their investment programme unabated. During the next few weeks, the new Curtain Coating facility will be installed, according to plan, at Cham speciality paper mill. Curtain Coating Technology is a world-wide first for Cham Paper Group’s markets. The investment will amount to CHF 20 million ($17 million). The innovative coater allows two layers, with different functional properties, to be applied simultaneously to the surface of the base paper. This opens up entirely new opportunities to the Group in improving production efficiency for speciality papers and, especially, in developing new product applications and markets.
