In 2022, China’s imports of wood chips expanded 18% year-on-year to 18.5 million tonnes. The value of imports increased 46% to $4.0 billion. Average price of wood chips grew 24% to $218 per tonne.
Vietnam’s share amounted to 57% of China’s total wood chips imports in 2022. Vietnam is China’s biggest wood chips supplier with second-ranked Australia at 19% of total exports, while Thailand takes 8% and Chile 4%.
