China’s wood furniture exports hold steady amid falling prices

In the first half of 2025, China’s exports of wood furniture held at 224.1 million pieces year-on-year even as average export prices fell by 14% and export value declined to $10.4 billion, according to Lesprom Analytics.

The United States remained the top destination with a 27% share despite a 3 pp drop, as shipments to the U.S. fell 8% to 60.0 million pieces, export value slid 18% and unit prices fell 10% to $47. The United Kingdom and Japan followed with 7% and 6% shares; UK volumes rose 9% to 15.7 million pieces, while Japanese volumes increased 3% to 14.2 million. Poland and Canada outperformed most markets, with Polish shipments surging 27% to 5.2 million and Canadian volumes up 17% to 7.4 million. Australia’s 5% share declined 5% in volume and saw value and prices slip. Germany and France both held 5% shares; German volumes grew 6% to 11.3 million, while French shipments edged up 2% to 11.7 million. The Netherlands’ volumes were flat at 9.9 million, South Korea rose 4% to 6.5 million.

By product category, seating furniture exports eased 2% to 55.4 million pieces, with value down 17% to $3.7 billion and average price per seat falling 15% to $67. Bedroom furniture volumes climbed 10% to 24.1 million pieces, even as value dropped 10% to $1.7 billion and unit prices declined 19% to $72.

Producer price indices in the first half of 2025 showed factory-gate stability in China. The overall furniture manufacturing index fluctuated narrowly around parity, 100.1 in January, dipping to 99.9 in June, while the wooden furniture index eased from 100.6 to 100.4 over the same period, reflecting modest cost pressures.
