From January through April, Chinese log imports from New Zealand jumped 21.8% y-o-y to 5.6 million m3 with import value $787.9 million, according to China Customs data. Australia’s log exports to China soared 33.8% to 1.9 million m3 while average price declined 21.8% to $104 per meter. It was the lowest average price for logs among the major suppliers to China.

Log exports from Russia to China decreased 24.7% to 2.9 million m3 with export value dropped 25.4% to $357.5 million. U.S. log exports fell 36.0% to 1.2 million m3, export value declined 42.7% to $251.4 million.

In first four months of 2019, China gained log import by 3.95% to 19.3 million m3 with import value slid 8.7% to $3.3 billion.
