China's demand for pulp and paper making use chemical products is expected to grow at an annual rate of 7.5% over the next five years to about 8.16 million tonnes in 2010, China Cooperation Times reported on Wednesday. According to the newspaper, China produced about 1.63 million tonnes of chemicals used for making pulp and paper in 1990 and in 2000 this output reached about 3.93 million tonnes, up 9.2% a year on average. China's pulp and paper making use chemical imports are expected to reach 492 700 tonnes at the end of this year compared with 128 900 tonnes in 1980. There are now about 100 paper making use chemical producers in China, most of which are small enterprises. This year, China is expected to produce 35 million tonnes of paper and paperboards and 300 000-370 000 tonnes of paper making use chemicals. In 2010, China's output of paper and paperboards is expected to reach 40 million tonnes and demand for paper making use chemicals will range between 350 000 tonnes and 400 000 tonnes.
