Chinese plywood anti-dumping duties to expire in November

May 26, 2009. /Lesprom Network/. Anti-dumping duties on okoume-faced plywood entering the EU are to expire in November, according to the UK Timber Trade Federation (TTF). The duties were originally imposed in 2004 to protect European producers from cheap Chinese okoume-faced products entering the EU, as Timber Trades Journal informed Lesprom Network.
Anti-dumping duties expire after five years unless a review shows that ending the measure would cause further injury to producers. European plywood producers have until August 13 to lodge a request for an expiry review.
Many Chinese producers used different face veneers after the regulation came into force. Latterly, the level of Chinese plywood exports has fallen, with exports to all markets declining dramatically in the first quarter to 959,600 cubic metres (down 41% by volume) compared to a year ago.
