Sep 25, 2012. /Lesprom Network/. George Webb, Group Purchasing Manager at Norbord, has been elected as the new chairman of Confor, as the organisation said in the press release received by Lesprom Network.
"I am delighted to take over as chairman and look forward to working with Confor staff and members on behalf of the industry," said George. "There are both significant opportunities and challenges facing our sector and our industry, more than ever, needs effective representation. Confor has significantly strengthened the sector's voice in government, as well as providing a range of high quality member services and undertaking wood promotion through Wood for Good."
George succeeded Colin Mann at Confor's AGM on 13th September 2012, who had completed a three-year term in office. Colin will continue as an ordinary board member. George paid tribute to his predecessor, congratulating him for steering Confor through a period when a great deal of important work has been required in support of our industry and raising of its profile.
Colin, in turn, noted, "I have enjoyed my three years in office and hand over to George with Confor set to agree its Business Plan for 2013. Confor's profile has never been higher with government, and it has played a key role in cross-industry collaboration, through initiatives like the industry accords with other trade associations and health and safety. These promise strong progress for the future. The board now looks forward to working with George, who will make an excellent chairman and take the organisation forward to gain even greater strength."
