Domtar Corporation will halt operations at its Grenada, Mississippi, paper mill next month, ending more than three decades of production and affecting over 160 employees.

The company announced the closure Wednesday, citing current newsprint market conditions. The Grenada facility, acquired as part of Domtar’s 2023 purchase of Resolute Forest Products, will be shut down indefinitely. Domtar said it will provide transition resources, benefit support, and job assistance to affected workers.

The decision is part of the company’s broader effort to align production capacity with shifting business conditions, according to a report by The Northside Sun.

The Grenada mill, which began operations in 1989, houses one of North America’s fastest and most modern newsprint machines. It served customers across the southeastern U.S., Mexico, and Latin America and benefited from proximity to Gulf Coast ports.
