Ence has initiated the annual technical shutdown at its Navia biofactory, a strategic process running until 20 March that involves Euro 11 million investment in maintenance and improvement projects. The company is focusing on initiatives to enhance competitiveness and resilience, including digitalisation and cybersecurity upgrades, improved thermal efficiency, and measures to reduce fossil fuel use.

The shutdown period will also accommodate work required for a new decarbonisation project and a new wood yard line, which aim to increase production flexibility for specialty pulps. Advanced sensors for real-time measurement of pulp quality parameters are being installed to support production excellence. The Navia biofactory holds environmental certifications including the Nordic Swan label and Zero Waste certificate, confirming that virtually all waste generated is reintegrated into the value chain.

Ence is a leading European producer of eucalyptus pulp, with a combined annual capacity of 1,200,000 tons from two key biofactories in Spain: Navia (Asturias) and Pontevedra (Galicia).
