Ence’s biofactory in Navia reduced its greenhouse gas emissions in 2018

Ence’s biofactory in Navia substantially improved its environmental performance in 2018, by reducing the tons of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere by 2,800 compared to the previous year’s data. This was confirmed by the verification audit of greenhouse gas emissions to which the plant was submitted at the end of last year. The audit results in the best emission efficiency data for this biofactory, in relation to its production, as the company says in the press release received by Lesprom Network.

With these data, the plant is among the best records of energy generation facilities in the region. The greatest reduction in greenhouse gas emissions has been achieved thanks to the reduction in fuel consumption, both in the recovery boiler, linked to the industrial process of pulp, and in the biomass boiler. Overall, the use of this fuel was reduced by 1,854 tons compared to 2017.

The reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the Navia biofactory confirms Ence’s commitment to the defense and care of the environment. Within this line, in the company’s bio-factories, measures to reduce the carbon footprint and improve energy efficiency are being carried out, and in 2019 work has begun to define a protocol for calculating the carbon footprint of the company that allows better directing actions in these areas.
