Industrial roundwood purchases from Finland’s private forests total 39.4 million m3 in 2025, after strong trading early in the year and exceptionally low volumes after the summer. The annual volume is 19% lower than in 2024 and 9% below the average for the previous five years, based on figures released by the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke).
In standing sales, the average 2025 price for spruce sawlogs is Euro 82.88 per m3 and pine sawlogs is Euro 80.45 per m3, while birch sawlogs average Euro 65.77 per m3. Standing-sale pulpwood averages Euro 33.30 per m3 for spruce, Euro 31.12 per m3 for pine, and Euro 31.37 per m3 for birch.
In delivery sales, the average 2025 price for spruce sawlogs is Euro 84.57 per m3 and pine sawlogs is Euro 81.99 per m3, while birch sawlogs average Euro 74.21 per m3. Delivery-sale pulpwood averages Euro 52.59 per m3 for spruce, Euro 51.09 per m3 for pine, and Euro 51.58 per m3 for birch.
Prices rise through the first half of 2025 and reach record levels in the summer, then fall sharply through the end of the year. After the summer peaks, standing-sale prices fall by Euro 8 to Euro 11 per m3 depending on assortment, and delivery-sale price changes are of similar size, with slightly smaller moves for softwood sawlogs.
Pulpwood shows the largest within-year declines, falling by around 30% in standing sales and almost 20% in delivery sales. The June prices for pine pulpwood and birch pulpwood are the highest recorded in the monthly series that starts in 1995, and the within-year price swings in 2025 are larger than in any earlier year in the monthly statistics series.
By assortment, spruce sawlogs and pine pulpwood each account for nearly one quarter of the 2025 trade volume, pine sawlogs account for one fifth, and birch pulpwood and spruce pulpwood each make up slightly more than one tenth. The pulpwood volume is roughly equal to the combined volume of sawlogs and small-sized sawlogs.
