Finland’s industrial roundwood fellings drop 12% in January 2026

In Finland, a total of 5.85 million m3 of industrial roundwood was harvested in January 2026, down 12% from the previous year and down 2% from the five-year January average, Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) reported. Sawlogs totalled 2.5 million m3 and pulpwood totalled 3.3 million m3.

Industrial roundwood removals from non-industrial private forests were 4.8 million m3, down 12% from the previous year. The felling volume in forest industry companies’ forests and state-owned forests was 1.1 million m3, down 11% from the year before.

By assortment, pine logs totalled 1.1 million m3, spruce logs 1.3 million m3, and hardwood logs 135 thousand m3. Pine pulpwood totalled 1.3 million m3, spruce pulpwood 1.1 million m3, and hardwood pulpwood totalled 906 thousand m3.

Energywood removals totalled 538 thousand m3, down 18% from the previous year. Delimbed stems and whole-trees accounted for 76% of the energywood volume.
