May 31, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. Finnish paper industry will extend the ongoing lockout at all its mills by two weeks from June 15, the head of the employers' federation said on Tuesday. "Talks (with union representatives) are still ongoing but we announce the start of the new lock-out period now as required by the law," Timo Poranen, president of the Finnish Forestry Industries' Association told Reuters. The employers are required to announce a lock-out two weeks before the planned date. The paper industry enforced a four-week lockout on May 18 following a strike by workers. The dispute in the key export sector is mainly over industry's plans to scrap mill shutdowns during some holidays and on the use of outside labour.
