Genera has started up new non-wood pulping and stock preparation systems at its Vonore, Tennessee facility to process locally grown grasses for sustainable packaging production, according to the technology supplier Andritz. The installation is part of a large-scale expansion of the manufacturing plant.
The supplied equipment includes multiple refiners, stock preparation systems, and pulp washing and dewatering equipment. These systems are designed to supply high-quality pulp to the facility's thermoforming systems.
The pulp produced is used to manufacture compostable, molded fiber packaging for food service applications. This production supports the shift away from fossil-based plastic packaging.
Genera first ordered the non-wood pulping equipment in 2019. The recent start-up is part of the company's ongoing expansion at its Tennessee location.
