German Pellets' Texas plant received SFI and PEFC certifications

May 02, 2014. /Lesprom Network/. German Pellets plant in Woodville, Texas, is now certified according to the standards of SFI Fiber Sourcing and PEFC Chain of Custody, thereby guaranteeing that it processes raw products sourced from sustainable forestry and wood management, as the company said in the press release received by Lesprom Network.

"For our pellet production we exclusively use raw products from monitored sources and from sustainably managed forests. To ensure that this is so, we make use of the rigorous requirements of SFI und PEFC," notes German Pellets' spokeswoman Claudia Röhr. This is now confirmed with the certification, made in cooperation with the suppliers of the raw-product.

Taking sustainability into account has always been right at the top of German Pellets' agenda. Similarly, in its European facilities German Pellets uses the certification standards of PEFC in its raw-materials purchasing.

"Particularly regarding pellet imports, it is important for our customers in Europe to know that sustainability standards of forestry and wood management are being maintained in the exporting country," Claudia Röhr explains. For this reason, the US facility in Woodville underwent the SFI and PEFC certification process. The Woodville facility is supplied exclusively with raw materials bought in accordance with SFI and PEFC guidelines.

In the context of this certification, the company’s monitoring system was examined according to SFI and PEFC standards. Ecological, environmental and social criteria are taken into account. SFI is the leading forestry certification system in North America, PEFC its European counterpart. Both systems are recognised worldwide.
