In recent years, Russia's lumber industry has seen a decline in production. In 2021, before sanctions were imposed by European countries due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the industry produced 30.2 million m3 of lumber. However, after the sanctions started in 2022, production dropped to 29.0 million m3. This downward trend continued into 2023, with production further decreasing to 28.5 million m3, according to the Russian Federal State Statistics Service. This volume is 4.5% less than in 2022 and 5.6% less than in 2021.

The production of windows and their wooden frames saw a significant decrease of 19.2%, dropping to 330,000 m2. Conversely, the manufacturing of doors, including their wooden frames and thresholds, witnessed growth, with a 7.1% increase to 22.8 million m2.
