Since March 25, 2022, UK sanctions have come into force, restricting the import of wood products from Russia and Belarus. If in January the supply of wood pellets from Russia to the UK amounted to 48.5 thousand tons, then in February it fell to 18.3 thousand tons, and in March and April to 7.4 and 7.0 thousand tons, respectively. In May, the supply of wood pellets from Russia to the UK completely stopped.
In March - May, Latvia increased the exports of pellets to the UK by 68% up to 265 thousand tons, exports from Portugal increased by 33% up to 48 thousand tons.
In May, the UK reduced the volume of imports of wood pellets by 9% year-o-year, to 639 thousand tons. According to Lesprom Analytics, the value of imports downed by 10% to $127 million, while the average price decreased by 1.3% to $198 per ton.
In 2021, the value of Russian exports of wood pellets to the UK amounted to $64.7 million, the volume was 427.8 thousand tons.
