In July, industrial roundwood harvesting in Finland totaled 3.3 million m3, marking a 14% decrease compared to July of the previous year and 2% below the five-year average. From January to July, cumulative removals reached 34.7 million m3, 5% higher than the same period last year, according to Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke).
Sawlog removals amounted to 1.4 million m3, while pulpwood removals reached 1.9 million m3. Harvesting from non-industrial private forests accounted for 2.5 million m3, reflecting a 14% year-on-year decline. Removals from forests owned by forest industry companies and the state stood at 0.8 million m3, down 13% from the previous year.
Energywood removals totaled 0.5 million m3 in July, with 37% consisting of delimbed stems and whole trees. During the January–July period, energywood harvests totaled 4.3 million m3.
From January to July, log removals totaled 14.668 million m3, up 1% from the previous year and 3% above the five-year average. Pine logs declined 2% to 6.457 million m3, while spruce logs rose 4% to 7.599 million m3. Hardwood logs remained stable at 0.612 million m3, 6% above the five-year average.
Pulpwood harvesting reached 20.058 million m3 during the same period, up 8% from the previous year and 5% above the five-year average. Pine pulpwood totaled 8.958 million m3, increasing 3%. Spruce pulpwood rose 15% to 6.143 million m3, and hardwood pulpwood increased 7% to 4.956 million m3, despite being 2% below the five-year average.
