Nov 02, 2009. /Lesprom Network/. Ipek Kagit, a tissue-paper producer and a joint venture between the Eczacibasi Group and Georgia Pacific, opened a new production facility in the Aegean city of Manisa, Turkey, as Hürriyet Daily News reported.
Ipek Kagit has invested $40 million in the new facility, which will increase the company’s production capacity threefold.
“The new facility of Ipek Kagit is a milestone for Eczacıbaşı Group’s development, with its technology, capacity and quality,” Bülent Eczacibasi, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Eczacibasi Holding, said at the opening ceremony. “With this initiative, Eczacibasi Group aims to contribute to the development of the Aegean region and create new jobs.”
Tarek Hallaba, the President of consumer business for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Georgia Pacific, noted that the Turkish market has strategic importance for the company. “Ipek Kagit has an important role in Georgia Pacific’s European portfolio,” he said.
The Manisa facility is the third for Ipek Kagit after factories in Yalova and Kazakhstan. Said Sertac Nisli, managing director of Ipek Kagit: “This facility will give us an opportunity to continue our leadership in the domestic market while supplementing our increasing export capacity.”
