J.D. Irving to resume operations at Pinkham sawmill on June 3, 2008

May 28, 2008. /Lesprom.com/. J.D. Irving's Pinkham sawmill in Nashville Plantation, Maine, will reopen June 3, 2008. 45 workers will return to work. Two weeks following this date will resume work company's planer mill which finishes the lumber for markets. The Pinkham Sawmill had been closed since February due to depressed market demand and prices as a result in the slump in housing construction. Anthony Hourihan, regional manager for Irving Woodlands LLC and Irving Forest Products in Maine, said that the sawmill was able to reopen for a number of reasons, including an increase in demand for the quality of lumber produced at Pinkham, even though prices are still down about 25% from 2006 levels and fuel prices have risen sharply.
