Latvijas Finieris daughter’s company Likmere Ltd. opened new mill in Ukmerge, Lithuania

Likmere mill plans to process up to 150 thousand cubic meters of birch veneer logs thus annually producing 85 thousand cubic meters high quality peeled veneers to be exported further on for work to AS Latvijas Finieris mills in Latvia, the company said. Starting the production of veneers in this mill transportation of birch veneer logs from Lithuania for processing in Latvia will be stopped. The annual turnover in the new mill for the next year is planned in Euro12-13 million. The mill will employ approximately 40 people. AS Latvijas Finieris has invested up to Euro 21 million in his Lithuanian mill, among them Euro 12,5 million credit is given by AS Swedbank. Uldis Biķis, AS Latvijas Finieris CEO recognizes: „Depending on the further balance of demand and supply in the world market the decision about further development of the mill will be taken. Presumably next step or the second part can be the increase of veneer capacity, drying of veneers and further processing. Such scenario mainly depends on changes in the world market‘’. The mill has current up-to-date technological equipment coming from Finland, New Zealand, Lithuania and Latvia. The largest machinery supplier is Finnish company Raute Corporation. Technical project and building construction was done by Lithuanian enterprises.
