Latvijas Finieris is continuing the expansion of its Riga Wood Finland Oy plant in Sastamala, Finland, with an investment of approximately Euro 15 million aimed at increasing production capacity and automation levels. The project includes a new peeling line, installation of which is scheduled for autumn 2026, and the introduction of artificial intelligence in production processes, according to Latvijas Finieris.
Construction work at the site has advanced, with foundations laid for a new finishing basin late last year and concreting of the walls planned for 2026. The plant's roof has been raised across approximately 550 m² to accommodate the new line, which is expected to become operational in early 2027. The investment is also projected to positively impact regional employment.
The company plans to process roughly half of its veneer log volume outside Latvia in the coming years, citing increasing competition for efficient land use in Europe. The project is being supported by OP Corporate Bank and is intended to contribute to the growth of Latvijas Finieris and economic activity in Finland, Latvia, and Estonia.
Latvijas Finieris is one of the largest birch plywood producing companies in the world with production in all Baltic countries and in Finland.
