Mar 28, 2007. /Lesprom Network/. In the framework of the opening of the Year of China in Russia head of Rosleskhoz Valery Roshchupkin met first secretary of the committee of Mudanjiang city (China) Suy Guango, press-service of the Russian ministry of natural resources said. In course of the meeting the parties have discussed perspectives of cooperation between Russian Federation and China in the field of forestry. Suy Guango said that his region is very interested in development of business relations with Russia. “China purchases 20 million cubic meters of wood in Russia annually, at that more then one third passes through Mudanjiang region,” he explained. Head of Chinese delegation emphasized that higher export duties on log from Russia open new perspectives for cooperation of two countries although attitude of Chinese businessmen toward this process is ambiguous. According to Suy Guango, China intends to construct some enterprises on advanced wood-processing in Russia in near future. In his turn, Valery Roshchupkin explained that decision on the increase of export duties was made to stimulate Russian businessmen to construct enterprises on advanced wood-processing and not to perplex work of foreign partners. “Russian business was given a stimulus and now already 86 large investment projects concerned with timber processing on the territory of Russia are underway. The businessmen will receive significant preferences”, Roshchupkin said.
