Spruce log prices in Finland dropped to Euro 82.12 per m3 in August, down 2% from July, while pine logs averaged Euro 80.04 and birch logs Euro 64.67, both declining by 3%. Compared to their peak in June, standing sale prices fell by about four euros for pine and spruce logs, and nearly five euros for birch logs. Pulpwood prices declined more sharply, with pine and birch each down 6% to Euro 31.25 and Euro 31.57 per m3 respectively, and spruce pulpwood falling 4% to Euro 33.47. Since June, pulpwood prices have dropped by around three euros. Despite the decreases, the real price of birch logs matched the average level for 2024, while prices for other main assortments remained 2–4% higher than last year. In delivery sales, pulpwood prices fell by 1% from July, with pine pulpwood averaging Euro 52.72, spruce Euro 54.52, and birch Euro 53.08 per m3. Compared to last year, delivery prices increased between 5% and 7%.
Industrial roundwood purchases in August were 28% lower than in the same month last year and 20% below the average for the previous five years. August marked the fourth consecutive month of significantly reduced purchase volumes. However, strong trade in the early part of the year kept cumulative roundwood purchases for January–August only 6% below the 2024 level, and 6% above the five-year average.
