Aug 13, 2010. /Lesprom Network/. Chilean wood products manufacturer Masisa's business is rebounding on increased investments in Brazil and there are no immediate plans to issue new debt, as Reuters reported. Masisa SA shed 1,500 workers during the financial crisis because it was hit by slumping demand in the United States and other markets. Last year, the company posted first-half losses of $26 million. But Masisa has seen double-digit growth in Argentina and demand for wood products in Chile has soared since the country suffered a devastating earthquake in February, CEO Roberto Salas said at an event in Panama City. "We've been having quite a positive recovery," Salas told Reuters. "Brazil by far has been the leader in the growth of volumes, at least in the current period." The Santiago-based company manufacturers strand board, particle board, medium density fiberboard, sawed wood, doors and moldings as well as other products and started operations at a new plant in Brazil last year.
