Nippon Paper Lumber wins prize

Oct 12, 2012. /Lesprom Network/. Nippon Paper Lumber Co., Ltd., part of Nippon Paper Group, was the recipient of a prize in the Great East Japan Earthquake Reconstruction Special Category for its 2012 Wood Products Use Campaign ‘Ki-zukai Undo’, and was presented with a certificate of appreciation from the Director of the Japan Wood-Products Information & Research Center at an award ceremony held in Tokyo on October 1, as the company said in the press release received by Lesprom Network. The Wood Products Use Campaign ‘Ki-zukai Undo’ promoted by the Forestry Agency is a campaign that aims to revitalize mountain villages through the proactive use of domestic timber and create luxuriant forests that absorb carbon dioxide. The award recognized the initiative by Nippon Paper Lumber to ship to the Kanto region and Western Japan the woodchips for paper that could no longer be supplied to Ishinomaki Mill Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. and other facilities that suspended operations as a result of the earthquake. By avoiding the need to suspend operations at sawmill and woodchip mills in the Tohoku region, the initiative contributed to the stable supply of materials for reconstruction from the disaster, as well as minimizing the impact of the earthquake disaster on domestic wood consumption.
