Norvik Timber Industries’ Russia subsidiary Norwood has started production at its new sawmill in Syktyvkar, Komi Republic on the 26th of Novembre, company said in a statement received by Lesprom Network. “We acquired a second hand sawmill from Norway during the summer of 2011 and it took us 15 months to bring to equipment to Syktyvkar and build the mill”, says Aleksander Panyukov, Managing Director of Norwood. The sawmill will produce about 90 000 m3 annually and the production will be sold to ex-CIS markets and also to Byko-Lat, which is part of the Norvik Timber Industries, for further processing. “Wood fiber quality and raw material availability in Komi is good and the new sawmill will be of strategic importance for the group going forward”, says Sampsa Auvinen, CEO of Norvik Timber Industries.
