Pfleiderer to close Ebersdorf and Nidda plants in Germany

Nov 09, 2010. /Lesprom Network/. Due to market overcapacity for raw particleboard and raw MDF, the management of Pfleiderer Holzwerkstoffe GmbH, a subsidiary of Pfleiderer AG, has commenced discussions with the respective employee councils concerning the closure of the particleboard plant in Ebersdorf and the MDF plant in Nidda, Germany. Approximately 300 employees will be affected by these closures, company said in a statement received by Lesprom Network. “As a result of the fall in demand in recent years, Western Europe will have structural overcapacity in the medium term of between 10% and 15% of the currently installed production capacities. In the present situation, therefore, competitive production and capacity utilization are no longer guaranteed,” stated Michael Wolff, Managing Director of Pfleiderer’s Business Center Western Europe. “The market situation is being exacerbated by the increasing scarcity and rising price of wood as well as the foreseeable increase in energy costs over the coming years.”
