Pulp and cardboard production in Russia is impossible without the modernization of the sector: Continental Management chairman of the board

Sep 15, 2004. /Lesprom Network/. Continental Management chairman of the board Nikolai Makarov is not optimistic about Russia’s intention to significantly increase cardboard and pulp production. During his address on the 3rd Baikal economic forum he said the country’s pulp and paper enterprises are loaded by 90-92%, Prime-Tass news agency reported. According to Makarov, apart from the modernization of timber-processing and pulp and paper sectors the improvement of the legislation is needed. A law protecting the rights of foreign investors is also required. During the distribution of forestries the government should rent forestries for 50 years (forestries are rented for 4-5 years at present) so that the renters were interested in the rational forestry usage. Nikolai Makarov noted that Continental Management sales are nearing $600 million. Continental Management comprises 26 enterprises employing 22 thousand workers.
