Oct 30, 2008. /Lesprom.com/. Rising North American OSB prices could not stop Norbord’s 3Q results falling year-on-year, Timber Industry Magazine reported. Average prices in the north central region rose from $177 per thousand square feet in 2007 to $201, and from $149 per thousand square feet to $158 in the south-east during the 3Q. In Europe, OSB prices declined from Euro 246 per cubic metres to Euro 196 year-on-year, continuing a downward trend during the previous five quarters. This led the Toronto-based wood-based panel producer to table net sales of $256m, down $36 million year-on-year and $6 million quarter-on-quarter; EBITDA at a loss of $9 million, compared with $30 million a year ago and $1 million in the previous quarter; and earnings at a loss of $18 million, down from a loss of $1 million in 2007, although improving on a loss of $37 million in the 2Q. “Norbord’s 3Q results reflected ongoing weakness in North American new home sales, downward momentum in UK housing-related activity and the overall impact of the global credit crisis,” the company said.
