Aug 25, 2008. /Lesprom.com/. Romania is to spend some of its EU grants to modernise the farming and agricultural sector in the country. According to the Financiarul news provider, the National Rural Development Programme believes bringing farm holdings up-to-date will have a positive effect on the health of agriculture and forestry investment. The authorities also believe refurbishing villages and improving property will also help the quality of life. The projects which will be funded by the EU are selected according to how important they are judged to be by analysts and plans are submitted in monthly sessions, rather than continuously. Last month, the Romanian agricultural minister asked the EU for a more coherent policy on forestry across the union. He said this was because a number of different sectors - such as agriculture, energy and environment - are interlinked with the fortunes of the forests and of timber investment in Romania.
