Roundwood trade in Finland increased by 10% in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, with total volumes exceeding the five-year average by 17%. Purchases of logs grew by 20% and pulpwood by 8%. In March, spruce pulpwood prices in standing sales rose by 3% from February to Euro 35 per cubic metre, while spruce logs reached Euro 84, up 2%, according to the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke).
In standing sales, pine logs averaged Euro 81 and birch logs Euro 67 per cubic metre, with respective increases of 1% and 2% from February. Among pulpwood assortments, birch and pine both rose by 2–3%, with birch pulpwood priced at Euro 33 and pine at Euro 33. Compared to last year’s average, standing pulpwood prices ended 6–7% higher.
In delivery sales, spruce pulpwood rose 3% to Euro 54, while pine and birch increased 1% to Euro 53 per cubic metre. Overall, March purchases from private forests were 6% higher than a year earlier, matching the five-year average.
