Aug 22, 2008. /Lesprom.com/. The price of Russian sawlogs recovered in the 2Q, as domestic housebuilding in western Russia strengthened during the period, Wood Resources Quarterly reported. Prices dipped slightly in the 1Q as export volumes fell and more logs became available. However, a surge in demand from the domestic market helped overturn this price drop quarter-on-quarter. Increasing export tariffs for Russian roundwood logs have seen the level of exports to Europe fall by 44% since 2007, with the Asian market receiving 15% less. WRQ added that Russia’s sawlog exports are at their lowest level for four years.
