Södra will dismiss 200 employees across its Swedish operations as part of a group-wide restructuring aimed at improving long-term profitability and competitiveness. The action program includes changes to working methods and increased focus on cost efficiency, digitalization and AI, according to Södra.

The layoffs affect both blue-collar and white-collar workers in Mönsterås, Mörrum, Värö and Växjö. Södra has begun union negotiations with affected parties. The company cited global uncertainty, rapid currency fluctuations, geopolitical unrest, and an unsustainable imbalance between raw material and product prices as key reasons for the restructuring.

Södra’s leadership stated the program is essential to maintaining investment capacity, ensuring competitive raw material prices for members, and continuing to serve long-term customer needs in the forest products industry. The company will offer support to affected employees throughout the process, according to Södra.
