Smurfit Westrock has completed an asset purchase agreement for Cartomanabí, a corrugated packaging company in Ecuador, marking its first acquisition since the formation of the combined entity. The transaction adds annual production capacity of more than 50,000 tons at the Montecristi facility and reinforces the company's position as the leading corrugated supplier in Latin America.
The acquired operation primarily serves the agriculture, protein, fast-moving consumer goods and industrial sectors. The integration will be supported by paper supplied from the company's North American mill system. Smurfit Westrock Latin America serves as the only pan-regional supplier with a fully integrated supply chain in the region, according to President and CEO Alvaro Henao.
Smurfit Westrock is a leading provider of paper-based packaging solutions in the world.
