In accordance with the new Forest Code edition, the legal norms of forest usage are brought into correspondence with the Civil and Land codes. The Forest Code determines the forest lands, dividing them into categories, as well as sets the rules of transition from forest lands to the lands of other categories, the rights of forest usage and other criteria. Forest parcels can be state-owned or become private property owned by companies and individuals. Forest acquisition procedure is carried out in line with the federal laws. Besides, forest parcels are rented for 1 years or 10-99 years by open auctions. Foreign companies and individuals obtain the rights to sign rent agreements for up to 1 year. The State Duma will also consider the adoption of the new Forest Code.
