Stora Enso is initiating a strategic review of its Central European sawmills and building solutions operations, a business unit representing approximately half of its Wood Products segment's sales. The review, scheduled for 2026, encompasses seven sawmills in Austria, Czechia, Poland, and Lithuania with a combined production capacity of about 3 million m3, plus three cross-laminated-timber mills and related sales networks. The company stated the assessment may lead to a divestment to sharpen its focus on core renewable packaging.

The operations under review lack strategic synergies with Stora Enso's renewable packaging operations, according to the company. The synergetic sawmills and processing units in Northern Europe, including those in Sweden, Finland, Estonia, and Latvia, are not included in the assessment and remain strategically important. Stora Enso plans to provide an update on the strategic review in 2026.

All potential changes resulting from the review will be subject to co-determination negotiations and other legal procedures in the impacted countries. Operations will continue as usual throughout the process, with the company maintaining its commitment to customer service and product quality.

Stora Enso is the largest sawn wood producer in Europe.
