Sweden reports higher softwood sawlog stocks at end-2025

Sweden’s total timber stocks total 9.3 million m3 as of 31 December 2025, down about 4% from the end of the previous quarter, while softwood sawlog stocks rise, pulp chip stocks fall, and pulpwood stocks stay near the same level, based on figures released by the Swedish Forest Agency. Pulpwood stocks total 4.9 million m3, down 2% from the previous quarter, softwood sawlog stocks total 3.4 million m3, up 27%, and pulp chips total 1.0 million m3, down 20%.

Compared with the same period in 2024, softwood sawlog stocks rise 19%, while timber balance region 3 shows a decrease. Pulpwood stocks rise 10% year on year, with the largest increase in timber balance region 2, and increases also reported in regions 1 and 3.

Pulp chip stocks remain roughly unchanged compared with the same period in 2024. Timber balance regions 1 and 3 record higher stocks, while regions 2 and 4 record lower stocks.

Stocks of roundwood for energy purposes total about 1,125,000 m3 as of 31 December, covering only the larger forest industry companies, pulp industries, sawmills, and purchasing organizations included in the survey.
